Superintendent of Schools Guest Speaker at Ceremony
The Mountain Ridge High School Chapter of the National Honor Society recently held its induction ceremony for the 2009-2010 school year welcoming forty-six new members to the organization. The NHS recognizes students who display outstanding accomplishment in the areas of scholarships, character, leadership, and service. Students who are inducted are required to have a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
The ceremony was held in the school’s theater under the direction NHS advisers, Susan Nolan and Leslie Martin, and principal Wayne Nicol. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Cox, served as the guest speaker for the program that celebrated the intellectual accomplishments, classroom achievements, and hard work and dedication of the students being recognized.
The program opened with a processional played by Tristan Stevens, followed by the National Anthem, sung by Alex Stevens. Four candles representing each characteristic of the NHS were lit by the following NHS officers: Tristan Stevens, Secretary, scholarship; Janelle Walbert, President, leadership; Steven Moon, Vice-President, service; and Ryan Beeman, Treasurer, character. A reception for all NHS members, inductees, and family members was held at the conclusion of the program.
