Fort Hill Inducts Members into NHS

Thirty-Eight Students Recognized for Leadership, Scholarship, Character, Service

On Monday, November 23, 2009, Fort Hill High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society held its induction ceremony and welcomed thirty-eight new members into the prestigious group. Membership into the National Honor Society is based on the four qualities of leadership, scholarship, character, and service.

The ceremony was conducted by Jaclyn Wolf, president; Derek Deshaies, vice-president; Kathryn Huber, treasurer; Alexis Stevens, secretary; and Julieanna Lehman, public relations officer. William Evans sang the National Anthem, and Daniel Johnson followed with the Pledge of Allegiance. After a brief welcome from the president, Robert James, NHS head advisor, gave his congratulatory remarks to the new inductees.

New Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Cox, was the ceremony’s guest speaker. He talked to the students about what it takes to be in the National Honor Society, and the current NHS officers elaborated on the core qualities of membership. After the induction of the new members, the annual lighting of the candles was observed as the NHS pledge was recited. Principal, Steve Lewis, provided closing remarks.

Current NHS members were also in attendance for the induction ceremony. These students, in addition to the officers, include Benjamin Brown, Jessica Cessna, Jessica Currence, Andrew Doyle, Tasha Dunlap, Krystal Durst, Emily Eaton, Margaret Edmiston, William Evans, Brandon Foor, Hannah Graham, Ty Hemmis, Daniel Johnson, Timothy Kelly, Adria Lewis, Hillary Leidy, Chelsea Rankin, Samantha Shipway, Sam Walker, Zachary Watkins, Lindsey Waugaman, and Sara Wolfe.

Co-advisor, Megan Morris, stated “Students chosen for membership in the National Honor Society are known for their integrity, diligence, and excellence in academic pursuits, in extra-curricular activities, and in their community endeavors. These students are truly worthy of this distinct honor. We look forward to welcoming these new members into the NHS at Fort Hill.”
