Four-School Tournament Named in Memory of Late Social Studies Supervisor
On Friday, April 17, 2009, Mountain Ridge High School hosted the 1st Annual Mary Louise Jones Debate Tournament. The tournament, named in memory of the late Social Studies Supervisor, Mary Louise Jones, included teams from Allegany, Fort Hill, and Mountain Ridge High Schools.
All three schools competed at the varsity and junior varsity levels in a modified Lincoln-Douglas format. The varsity teams’ resolution was “the number of graduation required credits should be increased for Allegany County Public School students.” The junior varsity teams debated “mandatory random drug testing of students violates the 4th amendment.”
Mountain Ridge High School won the varsity competition, and Allegany won the junior varsity event. Members of the winning teams received a medal in recognition of their achievements.
Team advisors included Matt Ravenscroft, Mountain Ridge; Tammy Twigg, Allegany; Ethan Devore, Fort Hill. Judges for the tournament were Al Feldstein, Vicki Day, Tanya Vargas, Donna Monteleone, Dr. David Fell, and Jay Stevens.
Team members from Fort Hill were as follows: Max Green, Kyle Walter, Jaclyn Wolf, Tayler Carr, Antonio Candler, Tina Snyder, Amanda Carlin, Noah Candler.
Team members from Allegany were as follows: Rushikeshn Parekhn, Cody Nicol, Daniel Nelson, Kristen Geatz, Hannah Elliott, Andrew Murphy, Taylor Eirich, Jacob Shade.
Team members from Mountain Ridge were as follows: Damien Guinn, Zac Dibuono, Rachel Culley, Eli Longley, Eric Hartman, Brenna Ishler, Ryan Beeman, Evan Schutz, Cady Kirkwood, Karina Whetstone, Mary Beth Benson, Michael Fisher, Sanjna Singh, Cictoria Winner, Keisha VanMeter.
