Mountain Ridge District Elementary Schools Recipients of Educational Gift
Once again, the Rotary Club of Frostburg donated dictionaries to each third grade student in the Mountain Ridge school district as part of the club’s annual dictionary project. Schools receiving dictionaries included Beall, Frost, George’s Creek, Mt. Savage, and Westernport Elementary Schools.
For the past eight years, the Frostburg Rotary Club has implemented this literacy project in Allegany County Public Schools. The original project began in South Carolina as a way to provide an essential educational tool for children.
School principals Bob Stevenson, Kim Smith, Dan Clark, Gary Llewellyn, and Alexa Fazenbaker helped coordinate the effort in each of their schools, and third grade teachers were very cooperative in hosting Frostburg Rotarians to speak to their classes.
Rotarians strive to put “service above self” by helping people in their communities, across the U.S. and throughout the world. During their dictionary presentations, Frostburg Rotarians stressed to the students that the dictionaries they received would help give them an opportunity to expand their vocabulary, assist with homework assignments, and teach them very useful information.
