Perennial Garden Planted in Memory of Friend, Advocate of School
Jen Thomas, Cresaptown Elementary School parent volunteer, recently applied to Annie’s Homegrown Organic Products to request funding to implement a school garden. The idea was originally to plant a vegetable garden, but after a group of fifth grade students helped to plant a Japanese maple tree and several perennials, the focus of the school garden shifted to a perennial garden.
Cresaptown has since received a grant in the amount of $250 from Annie’s “Grants for Gardens” in support of the project. The garden was planted in memory of Dorothea Lauterbach, a long-time devoted member of the Cresaptown Neighborhood Crime Watch and friend and advocate of Cresaptown Elementary School. A plaque and dedication is being planned for the upcoming school year.
Pictured are fifth graders Destiny Spiker, Grace Lawrence, Emily Thomas, Caroline Reid, Emily Fradiska, and Alexis Lashbaugh.
