All Collections Benefit Western Maryland Food Bank; Drive Runs until Oct. 31st
Beginning October 11, 2010, and continuing through October 31, 2010, students at Parkside Elementary School will be holding a “Kids Helping Kids” food drive to benefit the Western Maryland Food Bank. The drive is being held in partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education, whose goal this year is to collect one million pounds of food to feed the hungry in Maryland.
Each student who participates in the food drive by bringing in a non-perishable food item will receive a “Blue Bee” which is an incentive for the school’s PBIS program. School administrators felt that this was a worthwhile project to undertake at Parkside that also aligns with their participation in the PeaceBuilders program of community and home involvement and children showing compassion for others. Parkside’s food drive coordinator is school counselor, Eleanor Seiberling.
The school in Allegany County collecting the most pounds of food will be awarded $100 towards purchases through MSDE. Additionally, the top five schools with the most pounds collected across the state will receive monetary awards, certificates, and a Joe Corbi’s pizza party.
