8 Local Businesses Partner to Participate in ACES Program
The Americans for the Competitive Enterprise System (ACES) is a cooperative endeavor co-sponsored by the Allegany County Board of Education and the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce. The program provides educators with a hands-on learning approach in an effort to expand their understanding of the free enterprise system, ultimately influencing their students with their enhanced perceptions of the local business community.
During this 10-week program, which began August 26, 2010, ACPS educators will have the opportunity to learn about economic and human concerns from local business leaders. Each participating business hosts one evening of the program, which also gives participants the chance to tour facilities and gain important information about the businesses. With an increased understanding of the business community, educators are better prepared to create lessons on business education in their classrooms.
Participating businesses are as follows: Western Maryland Building Trades, Allegany County Teachers FCU, Progressive Physical Therapy, Western Maryland Health System, Friends Aware, Inc., Allegany College of Maryland, National Jet Company, and Martin’s Food.
Program participants are as follows: Gary Athey, Kristi Athey, Tammy Fochtman, Brenda Greig, Vicki Hoover, Julie Kyle, Jennifer Miller, Dana Reinhardt, Megan Rexrode, Allyson Ruddell, Nancy Smith, Lisa Stevenson, Elizabeth Strietbeck, Tina Tettenburn, and Colleen Zaloga.
