Stadium will be Open for the Start of the Season, despite Possible Ongoing Construction
The Greenway Avenue Stadium renovation has been a long time in the making, and crews are currently in the final stages of phase I of the project, which includes construction of the home side bleachers, concessions and field house. The first game scheduled at Greenway Avenue is set for Friday, September 3, 2010, when the Fort Hill Sentinels will host Surrattsville. The Allegany Campers are scheduled to host Southern on Saturday, September 4, 2010.
While this project has had its setbacks, including inclement weather, construction crews and the Board of Education are making every effort to have the project completed for the start of the fall sports season. However, should construction still be ongoing come September 3rd, fans can rest assured that the stadium will still be open for play. A contingency plan developed by principals of both high schools and the school system’s facilities department will seat all patrons on the visitors side of the stadium until the renovation is complete. Neither Fort Hill nor Allegany are expecting high gate traffic during the first weekends of play and feel that all guests will be comfortable on one side of the stadium.
According to superintendent of schools, Dr. David Cox, “We have a beautiful new stadium being built that was years in the planning and making. That is great news for the community, and I am certain that the end result will be well worth the wait.”
