Overview
Project Y.E.S. addresses students from grades 8-10 and moniters some students through graduation. It teaches basic skills in reading and math, addresses study and organizational skills, monitors progress, develops career activities, and helps to develop a working relationship between parents and the school. It offers students incentives and rewards for positive attitude, good grades and attendance, and showing improvement.
Project Y.E.S. not only offers students help with their schoolwork, but also provides a teacher to be there to assist them in any other ways they may need and other students to be there for them as well. |

FH Project Y.E.S. Students Construct Soap Box Car
Summer Project Has Earned Students Extra Credit in Art Classes
During the summer, Fort Hill Project Y.E.S. students, Nathan Twigg, Joseph Stafford, and Alex Albright, took on the task of constructing a soap box car. None of the boys could have imagined that this summer project would have earned them extra credit in their art classes.
At the suggestion of Project Y.E.S. coordinator, Sydney Sibley, Fort Hill art teachers Chuck Stump and Sandra Arnold, encouraged the boys to sketch their visions for the car for extra credit. The group named their car the Carnie-Mobile and was able to put their visions for the final product on paper for their teachers.
As an additional reward for their hard work on this project and for maintaining good grades and bettering their attendance, Sibley is arranging for a private tour of the Career Center with focused stops in the auto tech and engineering skill areas.
This is the fourth vehicle that the students have built in their free time. Nathan’s father assisted with the welding, and all three families have been extremely encouraging since the inception of this latest project. “We are very proud of these boys.This project has kept them out of trouble too,” said Mr. Twigg. The boys’ parents are grateful to the Project Y.E.S. program for recognizing the boys’ skills and helping them relate these skills to their future career plans.
Nathan enjoys science and was the chief designer of the Carnie-Mobile. He hopes to pursue a career as an engineer one day. Joseph’s passion is automobiles and he was the main technician in the operation. He hopes to apply to the Career Center’s auto tech program and own his own body shop after graduation. Alex was the assistant technician during the construction of the car and has known for many years that he would like to become a big crane operator in the future. Alex has also been asked to design a bulletin board in the main hallway at Fort Hill to display the students’ pictures and sketches of the Carnie-Mobile.
