Reasoning behind the school name: Many people believe that the school was named because of battles that were fought on the schools grounds, but that is not completely true. Some "posts" were set up on hills surrounding "Fort Hill", but no post was actually where the school is set today. The "Fort" reference was derived from a civil war skirmish at Nave's Crossroads and was referred to as the "The Battle of Folck's Mill." The high ground above Folck's Mill was fortified by Union troops against Confederate forces.
