As we celebrate the holiday season, and anticipate the start of a new year with a change of leadership in the White House, we are cautiously optimistic that economic conditions will improve in 2009. Like most businesses, school districts are not immune to the current economy with budget problems plaguing schools everywhere. The annual audit of the ACPS reveals that our system is fiscally sound with a significant fund balance available to address future needs or possible crisis. Unlike many businesses and state agencies, there are no plans to place employees on unpaid furlough days or a need to consider a reduction in force in response to the distressed economy. But rest assured that our teachers, support staff, and administrators are committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for children while providing educational opportunities that prepare them for the future.
