Culinary Arts Students Host Board Members, Superintendent for Lunch
On Friday, November 13, 2009, the fifteen junior and senior students enrolled in the new Culinary Arts program at the Career Center hosted a prestigious group for lunch to show off their culinary skills and talents. School board members, Mike Llewellyn and Karen Treber, joined David Cox, Superintendent; Vince Montana, Director of Facilities; and Deborah Bittinger, Career Center principal, for soup and salad catered by the students.

H1N1 Flu Mist to be Given Prior to Seasonal Flu Mist
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Allegany County Health Department has determined that elementary students will be provided with the H1N1 Mist in schools in October. The Seasonal Flu Mist will be postponed until December. Read More
8 Applicants Appointed to Community Resource Committee
On Tuesday, November 10, 2009, the Elected Board of Education approved the names of eight individuals and three students who were selected to serve on the resource committee formed to work collaboratively with Eperitus, an educational planning committee hired to conduct the Utilization Study of Cumberland Secondary Schools. Miner's Blasts Successful in Raising Nearly $65,000 in Three Years
For the past three years, members of the Mountain Ridge Stadium committee, along with the help of numerous community members, hosted the Miner’s Blast fundraiser at the Allegany County Fairgrounds in an effort to benefit the construction of Mountain Ridge Stadium. Needless to say, the group was successful in raising a total of nearly $65,000 during the Blast’s three year run. Read More
Mountain Ridge Marching Band to Perform in Thanksgiving Day Parade
On Thursday, November 26, 2009, Thanksgiving Day, the Mountain Ridge High School marching band, under the direction of David Kauffman, will have the privilege of performing in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia, PA. I have just experienced my first Cumberland Homecoming, and all I can say is "wow!" Members of my senior staff, Elected Board members, community members, teachers, and students had all tried to prepare me for the experience. I knew not to wear red or blue, not to stay too long in one place at the game, and to be careful not to say anything that could be interpreted as favoritism to one team/school over another. I also knew from my "briefings" that there would be a great turn out, that there is a long history going back over 80 years, and that the day would be spectacular. I remember several years ago that my family went on a camping trip to the Grand Canyon and in preparation, we had read up. We looked at pictures and watched videos, but nothing prepared me for the experience of that first glance over the canyon wall. You truly have to go there to get the full effect and experience.
